At Koorana Primary School, we learn Bahasa Indonesia from Year 1 to Year 7 with Ibu Brophy.
We have a well resourced LOTE room and have had an Interactive Whiteboard since 2007.
In our Languages Classroom, the
Webster Interactive Whiteboard enhances every lesson. It is an effective tool
for modeling sentence structure and other aspects of language and for making all
tasks accessible for visual learners. It has proved motivating for many students
and gives students who don’t have an IWB in their classroom, the opportunity to
use one.
Internet access allows excellent opportunities for intercultural language
learning and for authentic listening and speaking tasks. We regularly use
the Languages Online website which provides interactive activities.
Built in multimedia tools allow easy access to pictures that engage students.
Integrated technologies such as the DVD player, microphone and speakers allow
for instant feedback and consolidation of learning.
Flashcards, activites and games can be made on the IWB using Easiteach software
and the students can experience ‘virtual tours’ in Indonesia.
The possibilities exist for the use of webcams which would allow students to
communicate with other students of Indonesian in other parts of the state or
country in a controlled and safe environment.
Using the IWB in our LOTE room.

We recently had a visit from Ibu Ruth, a visiting teacher from Surabaya.
We have also had a Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppet) performance.
