NEW DIRECTIONS

The School's Plan 2009-2011 brings with it new levels of accountability. This is articulated in several collaboratively driven focus and strategic documents that will be used as drivers for teaching staff in terms of approach and delivery in our literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and ICT programs.

Underpinning this shift in focus are six key objectives that reflect our vision, beliefs and understandings which will guide us through this period.

Literacy
Literacy is a priority area at Koorana Primary School. We aim to establish clear standards of achievement and set challenging and realistic targets for students.
We aim to improve parity in Literacy achievements for Aboriginal students and boys. We provide early intervention with tailored programs to support students at risk in Literacy i.e. GIR (Getting It Right) Literacy and through our Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy Program (CLNP).

WELLBEING
We will ensure our school community is a safe orderly learning environment. This is best achieved by creating an atmosphere in our school where students are actively engaged in the curriculum and are provided interesting ways to learn; where they feel cared for by school staff; develop a sense of belonging; and where teachers know them well, build on their strengths and encourage them to persist.
Students are more likely to behave well if they are in an environment where they feel respected and capable.

Information Communication technology
Our school is committed to developing effective use of ICT in teaching and learning. Through the use of Schools Learning with ICT (SLICT) project, supported by Schools Online Curriculum Services (SOCS),we aim to;

  • Improve student opportunities and engagement in the learning process.

  • Raise student competences in the use of ICT.
    Enhance student learning outcomes.

  • Raise teacher competences in the use of ICT and the associated pedagogical shift.

  • Support and sustain whole school Professional Learning structures.

  • Maximise the benefits of the Online Teaching and Learning Services (OTLS) once it is implemented.

Numeracy
Numeracy is a priority area at Koorana Primary School. We aim to establish clear standards of achievement and set challenging and realistic targets for students. We aim to improve parity in Numeracy achievements for Aboriginal students and boys. We provide early intervention with tailored programs to support students at risk in Numeracy i.e. Getting It Right (GIR) Numeracy and through our Commonwealth Literacy and Numeracy Program (CLNP).
