PROFILE

Opened in 1994, Koorana Primary School grew to a peak enrolment of over 1000 students. The opening of a neighbourhood school has led to the population declining over time and in 2008, Koorana being reclassified from Level 6 to Level 5. The school enjoys outstanding support from its community through both the Parents and Citizens’ Association and its School Council.

The staff is committed to sustaining quality educational programs that are underpinned by pedagogy aligned to the Principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment. These protocols are embedded within the school’s Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Plan and feature prominently as a tool for individual reflection and personal development in the teacher driven ‘Staff Accountability’ process.

The staff have collectively, in 2008, realigned its Vision, Beliefs and Methodology as part of its ‘New Directions’ initiative. Koorana’s ‘New Directions’ will include its School Plan 2009 – 2011 and ‘Framework for Continuous Improvement’.

The school’s Academic Management Team is a central part of the empowerment, collaboration and shared decision–making that occurs within the school. Its purpose has been collaboratively generated and it provides a forum for school leaders to coordinate, interact and determine the school’s direction. Teaching staff are encouraged to participate directly or through the sub-groups that evolve as a response to system or local needs.
